Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight 2009 - Mini Masterchef Winners Announced
Nick Nairn, Andrew Fairlie and Lady Claire Macdonald are just three of Scotland’s most loved chefs. And three talented young people could be following in their footsteps after the announcement of the winners of The Herald’s Mini Masterchef competition which ran last autumn in conjunction with Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight 2009.
The winners are:
1st place - 8 year old Esther Molleson from Edinburgh who made crunch herby fish bites
2nd place - 10 year old Cahil McGeechan from Bothwell, Glasgow
3rd place - Euan Lownie from Inverbervie, Aberdeenshire
The competition was open to children aged between 8-14. Their task was to submit a recipe and a photograph, using ingredients grown or produced in Scotland. The entries were then put in front of an expert judging panel including chef Tom Lewis of Monachyle Mhor, Paul McLaughlin, chief executive of Scotland Food & Drink, and The Herald’s deputy editor, Janette Harkess.
Lucky Esther Molleson will be spending a day cooking in Tom’s kitchen at Monachyle Mhor, where she will have the opportunity to serve her winning dish to her family and fellow diners. The family will also receive travel and overnight accommodation at the hotel in the Trossachs, £200 in cash and £500 worth of cooking equipment.
The second and third prize winners will also be awarded of £500 worth of cooking equipment each.
